Susan Yu opened a free legal clinic at St. James' Episcopal Church, in Los Angeles in 2006. The church is located in the heart of the Miracle Mile/Mid-Wilshire district, on the northwest corner of Wilshire and St. Andrews, about one block west of Western Blvd. The clinic was opened to provide legal assistance to low income persons from all walks of life. Susan Yu serves as legal counsel to the Association for Asian American Studies, headquartered at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. As a national organization, the Association is comprised of professors, academic administrators, graduate and undergraduate students, and community leaders from North America. The Association was founded in 1979 and seeks to advance the highest professional standard of excellence in teaching and research in the field of Asian American Studies.

California Polytechnic State University, Pomona

Susan Yu donates her time to the California Polytechnic State University at Pomona' Professor for a Day program. As a Professor for a Day, she has lectured in the department of sociology in the areas of community and urban sociology, criminal justice, and sociology of culture. The program provides college students an opportunity to meet alumni and friends of Cal Poly Pomona and foster learning from professionals in the real world.
